I’ve come on a long flight to see some old Nanjing friends who now live in Abu Dhabi. I hadn’t had much sleep but I managed to stay awake enough to go down to the coast to see the small planes flying ridiculously fast between beacons. The whole place is new and sparkly and clean and there are many people walking around in traditional dress. Everything has been built on man-made islands, reclaimed from the sea. Imagine how long it takes to bring all these lorry loads of sands from the desert.
We are off to the local mall later where I will be looking for some clothes in normal sizes. I might buy an iPhone 6 too depending upon the price difference between here and the UK (ex-vat).
Another 4 days in the UAE will see us going to Dubai too. Can’t wait. It’s avocado heaven here – may be sick of avocado by the time I leave!
