Painted Ads

By | August 9, 2019

Advertisements look so much better when they are painted onto a wall and there is no shortage of painted ads in Uganda. Even the smallest shacks have adverts painted on the walls. They look really nice and much nicer than neon lights or printed posters. They are simpler in design and put across the message in a much more direct way. I speak as someone with a degree in marketing here. They catch the eye better than any other and I can think of.

Some buildings are covered from ground to roof in a giant advert like this one for Africell I spotted in Jinja. It’s a big undertaking to paint a whole building but I guess this is the price of advertising. The building owner gets a protective coating of paint and the advertiser gets long lasting and reasonably cheap advertising.

Many of the adverts are for the mobile phone network companies such as Airtel, Africell and MTN. Others are for more world-renowned brands such as Coke and Pepsi (what an old battle that is).
