Journalism and photography

I have decided to undertake a course on journalism and travel writing from the London School of Journalism. They have a lot of interesting courses which can be done via distance learning. So I have gone for the Freelance Travel Writing course and have completed the first module. It is interesting so far and I am looking forward to getting past the stage where they state the obvious such as;

  • You must write good English
    You have have something interesting to say
    You must stick to the publishing guidelines
    You have to consider the audience
    Photographs help
    You have to research the publication before you submit articles to them

I hope it gets more challenging than lesson 1 which involves writing a bio and a letter.

I also went to the Shanghai Photographers Club at Dada club near Jiaotong University on Wednesday night. I quickly came to the conclusion that it was a gay club as whenever men greeted each other (Chinese and Westerners alike) they kissed and hugged. From experience this is not normal in hetrosexual males.

Anyway the long and short of it was that there was a film show buy 6 different Shanghai photographers and several of them quite inspirational and therefore I have decided to go out this weekend and take some portraits of people on the street. So look out here for the results of my work.

Then when I have photos and a script I will start to approach travel publications. Hooray, I will be rich at last… or perhaps not!
