Dog and Bird

Tressie and I decided to go and have a look at the very old part of Nanjing near Zhonghuamen. The day was sunny and we saw some fantastic old houses and very friendly people. We then ambled down the the market by the long distance bus station where I had taken some really nice photos last year.

Tressie was greeted by an extremely friendly white dog who leapt up at her and started licking her hand – very unusual behaviour for dogs here. The dog then visited every stall looking to see what he could eat, smell, see. When he went on the pigeon seller’s stall she tried to chase him away. But he was having none of it.

He sniffed around the caged and eventually one of them came loose and a bird flew off. Well, not really flew – just made an attempt at flying. It half flew and half limped down the road from stall to stall with the seller trying to catch it, Tressie trying to help and the dog leading the way.

It wasn’t long before the dog caught the bird at ran back up the market with the thing hanging out of its mouth. Everyone watched as the screeching woman and Tressie tried to catch the dog and release the pigeon but he disappeared down a narrow alleyway never to be seen again.
