I have recently immersing myself in the world of Web 3.0 (blockchain etc.) and the use of artificial intelligence. I enjoyed using Story Machine which takes text prompts and turns them into a story. I have also signed up for several AI image creation services and had some great results. The two websites I have found to be the best are Night Studio and DALL-E. The stable Diffusion of Night Studio is particularly good.
I decided to try to get Story Machine to write a story and Night Studio to create an image to illustrate it. The prompts I put into the story were “tortoise uses online dating to find mate marries a handsome sea turtle with a gambling habit”.
The story I got out was not too bad – missed the target in one aspect regarding the gambling habit – but otherwise a bit creative and reasonably accurate.
“The tortoise, Ruby, had always been searching for a mate. She had tried going out on dates with other tortoises, but they were always too busy or too picky. So Ruby turned to the internet to find someone who would be a good match for her.
Ruby found a nice sea turtle online and they started talking. They agreed that they were both looking for a compatible mate, and they started dating. They went on several dates and eventually decided to get married.
Ruby was happy to find a compatible mate and she was excited to be married to a handsome sea turtle. She was also happy that he didn’t have a gambling habit, because she couldn’t stand people who gambled.”
Then I went to both Night Studio and DALL-E to create a matching illustration using the very short text prompt “tortoise marries sea turtle” without specifying any lighting, painting style, artists.
The best results emerge when the author goes into detail about the scene, the time of day, the background, the style of artists to base the image on and then evolves the image which is generated.
In the interests of experimentation, I used very few words to see what would be generated. Night Studio chose a photographic version of two animals on the beach. The detail is great but there is no emotion, no marriage.
DALL-E gave me a cartoon version which allowed it to depict a marriage which was the main message in the prompt. I think it’s a very successful image and if I was to evolve this I could refine it to make it match what’s in my imagination.
AI is being used to write research papers now and there is some concern over the ease of academic cheating. However, for recreational use, AI is a fantastic way to “waste” a whole down down a rabbit hole of your own imagination.
